UN Resident Coordinator System

There are thirteen UN organizations represented in China together with Bretton Woods institutions (World Bank, IFC and IMF). They work together as part of the UN Resident Coordinator system in order to support the Chinese authorities and people in their development process. While each organization has programmes and projects in line with their respective mandates, the country team composed of all representatives is committed to ensure that these programmes are mutually reinforcing and in a well coordinated manner provided optimal assistance to China.

As part of the United Nations, the UNDP manages the Resident Coordinator's System in China in the field of development cooperation and humanitarian assistance. Through strategic partnerships with other UN agencies, the Bretton Woods institutions and other development banks, private sector, academia, NGOs and the donor community, UNDP China supports the building of good governance to meet economic, social and environmental challenges facing China.

The primary objective of the operational activities for development within the United Nations system is to promote the self-reliance of recipient countries through multilateral cooperation. The fundamental characteristics of these operational activities should be their universal, neutral and grant nature and their ability to respond to the needs of recipient countries in a flexible manner. They constitute a critical and unique resource in enabling recipient countries to exercise the lead role in the management of their own development processes.
